AS 2187.4-1998: Explosives - Storage, Transport and Use - Pyrotechnics - Outdoor Displays - Australian Capital Territory

Service summary

You will be required to comply with this standard if you are involved in the outdoor display of fireworks or pyrotechnics and you intend to use aerial shells. The standard specifies the requirements and precautions to be carried out for the:

  • Storage
  • Conveyance
  • Handling
  • Use of pyrotechnics for outdoor displays.

It does not apply to pyrotechnics for:

  • Indoor theatrical and film sets
  • Marine distress signals
  • Classified and shopgoods fireworks
  • Model rocket mortars.

It should be noted that there is an inconsistency clause listed in the Act where regulations that are in conflict with approved standards are to be complied with. Any requirement of this standard that is in conflict with what a regulation states may be ignored, and the regulation complied with.
