You will need to comply with this standard if you intend to operate a laboratory where micro-organisms will be contained and / or examined for scientific purposes.

This standard specifies requirements and gives recommended practices relating to safety in laboratories in which micro-organisms are handled. The specified requirements relate to matters including:

  • how to handle micro-organisms
  • risk group categories for micro-organisms
  • containment levels for laboratories dealing with certain types of micro-organisms.
