You will need this licence if you intend to form a bookmaker company. Bookmakers operate at race meetings, in approved auditoriums or betting premises during pre-determined hours to offer bets on racing events.

The licence permits your company to take bets face to face, by recorded phone calls and the internet.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence:

  • your company must be a registered company under commonwealth legislation
  • you must lodge a bookmaker company financial statement
  • you must submit the application form and pay the required fees
  • each director must be a fit and proper person for the purpose of the licence
  • each director, shareholder and person concerned in the management of the company must be at least 21 years of age
  • each director must hold an individual bookmaker licence.

Further restrictions apply to directors with interests in other businesses.
