Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to test, use or operate fireworks for indoor or outdoor displays. As the display operator you are responsible for:

  • The handling of the fireworks;
  • The display site;
  • Any associated plant or system; and
  • Any associated activity.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Submit an application form outlining your personal details;
  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Provide documentation of the safety management system for the use of fireworks;
  • Have attended an approved training course on the use of fireworks for fireworks displays;
  • Have the required knowledge, competency and training level;
  • Demonstrate suitable practical experience in the use of fireworks; and
  • Pay the relevant application fees.

If paying by cheque, the licence will not be issued until the funds are cleared.

Approval time

Your application should be submitted to the Agency at least 56 days prior to the need to hold the licence.
