You will require this licence if you intend to operate as a sports bookmaker. Sports bookmakers take or negotiate sport bets on behalf of the general public at sporting events. Sports bookmakers typically operate at large-scale sporting events and are bound by law to operate under current legislation limitations at those events.
Licenses can be granted in three classes:
- Sole traders;
- Syndicates of up to four individuals; or
In cases where a bookmaker requires an agent to act on their behalf, you must apply for a Sports Bookmaker's Agent Licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this licence you must:
- Have your finger and palm prints taken by a police officer at a police station prior to submitting your application.
- Submit an application;
- Provide with your application a copy of your driver's licence, passport and full birth certificate;
- Pay the application fee; and
- Submit, with your application, an authorisation to allow a police officer to make enquiries and make a report to the commission about your character and criminal record.
