Restricted Hire Car Operator Accreditation - Australian Capital Territory

Service summary

You will require this accreditation if you intend to operate a restricted hire car. A restricted hire car is used for the transportation of passengers under a pre-booked contract arrangement, such as weddings and school formal transportation. A hire car is any vehicle that is not a bus, taxi or demand responsive service vehicle that:

  • Is used for the transport of passengers under a contract; and
  • Does not stand or ply for hire for the transport of passengers along a road or road related area.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Be at least 18 years of age; and
  • Meet the suitable persons requirements.

You will be required to provide with your application form:

  • Proposed service standards; and
  • A statement supplied by a police officer about the criminal history and infringement notices, if any, that you have received.

Accreditation is valid for 6 years.





The completed Application form must be lodged directly with the Road Transport Regulator.
