You will require this approval if you intend to provide a child care service to families who intend to claim Child Care Benefit (CCB). CCB is a payment made to families to assist with the costs of child care. Families are able to receive CCB where the care has been provided by a Commonwealth approved child care service. Classes of child care service that are eligible for this benefit include:
- Centre based long day care;
- In-home care;
- Occasional care;
- Outside school hours care; or
- Family day care.
If you are granted approval for a family day care service you must provide the Agency with attendance reports that detail which educator provided care for the session. These reports are submitted using the Child Care Management System and must contain the service provider personnel ID of the relevant educator.
If you operate an approved family day care service you must not provide care in a State or Territory other than those you are approved for unless an exemption has been granted by the Agency. Additionally, you, or your employees, are unable to provide care for your own child and claim CCB for that session.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
You must meet certain requirements to be granted approval; these requirements vary depending on the type of child care service you intend to provide.
If you are seeking approval of either a centre-based long day care or family day care service you must ensure:
- Most of the children provided with care attend at least one day a week and have not commenced school;
- You will operate on all normal working days in at least 48 weeks of the year; and
- You are able to provide care for any particular child for at least eight continuous hours on each normal working day you operate.
Other requirements apply if you are seeking approval for other eligible services.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information regarding eligibility requirements.
