You will require this approval if you intend to register, in Australia, any measuring instruments developed or produced in another country.
The Chief Metrologist may issue a written notice recognising a measuring instrument that has been certified in a foreign country as a certified measuring instrument if the certified value of the measuring instrument is equivalent to or comparable to the Australian primary standards of measurement.
Requests for recognition are considered on a case-by-case basis and are generally only agreed where there is a gap in the national measurement system that cannot readily be filled from within Australia.
Recognition of some activities may be considered under current international mutual recognition arrangements with some countries.
