Certificate of Airworthiness - Australian Government

Description

You will need this certificate if you operate an aircraft. This certificate demonstrates that an aircraft complies with the applicable airworthiness requirements. All aircraft require a certificate unless operated under a special flight permit.

A Certificate of Airworthiness is available under two classes:

  • standard
  • special.

A standard certificate may be issued in the following categories:

  • Transport
  • Normal
  • Utility
  • Acrobatic
  • Commuter
  • Manned free balloon.

A special certificate is issued to aircraft that do not satisfy the criteria for a standard certificate. Special certificates may be issued in the following categories:

  • Primary
  • Intermediate
  • Restricted
  • Limited
  • Amateur
  • Light Sport Aircraft (LSA)
  • Provisional
  • Experimental.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this certificate:

  • the aircraft to which the certificate relates must be registered in Australia
  • the aircraft to which the certificate relates must conform to the type design
  • any modifications or repairs to the aircraft must have been carried out in accordance with a supplemental type certificate or an approved modification / repair design
  • the aircraft must be in a condition for safe operation.
