Service summary

You will require this approval if you are a pathologist and intend for a Medicare benefit to be payable in respect of a service you have rendered. Please be aware that you must provide your services as a pathologist in an accredited pathology laboratory for a Medicare benefit to be payable.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must:

  • Be registered as a medical practitioner;
  • Be a fit and proper person;
  • Have the formal qualifications and experience determined to be appropriate;
  • Give an undertaking to only authorise necessary services; and
  • Give an undertaking to supervise the provision of the pathology services.
