You will require this certificate if you intend to import food into Australia, including for your own consumption. Your certificate will specify whether the food to which the certificate relates is required to be inspected and / or analysed by an authorised officer. This is to ensure that food imported into Australia meets the applicable standards and does not pose a risk to human health.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this certificate you must provide the following details:
- The name of the vessel on which the food is imported;
- The port of loading of the vessel;
- The date on which the food is, or is to be, landed in Australia;
- Your name and address as the person importing the food, and your agent in relation to the importation;
- A description of the food;
- Country of origin;
- Details of the food manufacturer or packer;
- Brand name of the food;
- The number of packages that are to be imported in the consignment, and the weight of each package;
- The total weight of the consignment;
- Of any lot codes provided in relation to the consignment; and
- The place at which the consignment may be inspected.
