You will need this certification if you intend to command an aircraft that will conduct a Land and Hold Short Operation (LAHSO). A LAHSO is where a landing is made on an approved runway and the pilot commanding the landing craft has accepted the requirement to stop short and not proceed beyond a designated line.
LAHSO enable an airport to expand capacity by increasing the number of landings on a runway on the condition that they hold short and do not interfere with intersecting runways, taxiways or other designated points.
