Service summary

You will need to apply for this permit if you intend to use a drone or similarly unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for commercial purposes. The UAV system may include:

  • the vehicle itself
  • the controllers
  • the pilot stations
  • command and control links
  • ground support equipment
  • components that have been specified in the type design
  • any other associated devices or operational personnel.

Some of the commercial purposes this certificate covers include:

  • weather monitoring
  • photography and filming
  • delivery
  • agricultural spraying or monitoring.

You will only be able to operate the UAV as long as it remains in your visual line of sight (VLOS) To operate it beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), you will require additional approval.

Additional information

When submitting your application, you will need to:

  • have a valid Aviation Reference Number (ARN)
  • include a log book detailing at least 5 hours of aeronautical experience
  • have completed a UAV Type training course
  • have passed an aeronautical exam
  • pay any required fees
  • submit the appropriate form.
