You will require this licence if you intend to provide flight services and require a traffic information service rating. You may also apply for an endorsement on your flight service licence. The function of a flight service licence holder with a traffic information service rating is to provide, or supervise the provision of, traffic and flight information and alerting services for the flight information area for which the licence is endorsed.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this licence you must:
- Have turned 18;
- Hold a Class 3 medical certificate;
- Have successfully completed the training (including any examination or assessment) specified for the licence, rating and endorsement relevant to that rating; and
- Speak English clearly, and understand spoken English, to a standard that allows clear spoken two-way communication in the course of performing a flight service function.
