Licence for Dealings Involving Intentional Release of a Genetically Modified Organism into the Environment - Australian Government

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to be involved in the intentional release of a Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) into an area outside of a certified facility. The purpose of this licence is to identify and maintain a record of GMOs that have been deliberately exposed to the environment. GMOs are organisms, whether plants or other matter, that have had their genomes altered by humans.

The size of the release can range from small areas under limited and controlled conditions (field trials) through to commercial scale releases.
