You may be required to comply with this code if you intend to apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.

A RAC industry permit means any of the following:

  • refrigerant handling licence

  • restricted refrigerant trading authorisation.

To be eligible for a permit you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard.

This code of practice provides for minimum standards for operation, servicing and repair procedures of motor vehicle air conditioners (MVAC) and includes procedures for recovery and recycling of refrigerants to control emissions. Users of this code should refer to the relevant motor vehicle or air conditioning service manual for details of specific systems.
