Note that this standard has been updated and you will need to meet the requirements set out in ISO 799-1:2019 Ships and marine technology — Pilot ladders — Part 1: Design and specification.

You must comply with this standard if you operate a merchant vessel which embarks and disembarks maritime pilots while the vessel is underway.

This standard sets out the minimum requirements for pilot ladders on board vessels. A pilot ladder is provided to enable a maritime pilot to embark and disembark a vessel safely along a vertical portion of the ship hull.
