You will be required to comply with this standard if you operate a ship registered in Australia, or any ship in the territorial sea of Australia.
Any vessel to which Annex IV applies, and section of the 2012 Guidelines does not apply must be equipped with a sewage treatment plant approved by the agency that complies with:
- Regulation 9 of Annex IV; and
- For a system installed on a vessel after 31 December 2015 - IMO Resolution MEPC.227(64);
- For a system installed on a vessel after 31 December 2009 and before 1 January 2016 - IMO Resolution MEPC.159(55); and
- For a system installed on a vessel before 1 January 2010 - IMO Resolution MEPC.2(VI).
This does not apply if the vessel has an approved sewage community and disinfecting system or holding tank.
A vessel to which Annex IV and section 4.2 of the 2012 Guidelines apply must be equipped with a sewage treatment plant or holding tank approved by the agency or another relevant organisation, and complies with section 4.2 of the 2012 Guidelines/Regulation 9 of Annex IV.
