Certification of a Facility - Australian Government

Service summary

You will require this certification if you intend to operate a facility for the containment of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The purpose of certification is to satisfy the Regulator that the proposed facility meets the Regulator's requirements for physical containment of GMOs.

This certification applies regardless of whether the facility is a laboratory, plant house, insectary, animal house or another type of facility.

The conditions of certification also satisfy the Regulator that certain procedures will be observed to ensure the safety of workers with GMOs.

Eligibility requirements

An organisation may seek certification of a facility by applying to the Regulator.

In order for a facility to be certified, an applicant must meet the Regulator's criteria for certification, as set out in the Regulator's Guidelines.

The application form sets out a number of questions to be answered by applicants. The questions will seek responses from the applicant to ensure that the criteria for certification detailed in the Guidelines are met.
