Radiocommunications (406 MHz Satellite Distress Beacons) Standard 2014 - Australian Government

Description

You will be required to comply with this standard if you intend to manufacture, supply, sell or modify a 406 MHz satellite distress beacon.

The purpose of this standard is to ensure that radiocommunications equipment achieves a satisfactory level of performance prior to use.

The technical requirements of this standard are drawn from both:

  • AS / NZS 4280.1:2022 406 Global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) Cospas-Sarsat EPIRB - Emergency position indicating radio beacon operating on 406 MHz - Operational and performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results
  • AS / NZS 4280.2:2023 406 MHz Satellite Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs).

Please note that if you are importing a radiocommunication device for the sole purpose of use at a significant event it may be exempt from this standard.
