You will require this appointment if you intend to provide medical examination services to individuals who are applying for aviation licences. You will only be appointed if you are a suitably qualified medical practitioner.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this appointment you must provide:
- The appointment application form;
- Evidence of competence in aviation medicine;
- A copy of your resume;
- Your Aviation Reference Number (ARN);
- A certified copy of your medical practitioner registration;
- A certified copy of your aviation medicine qualification; and
- A certified copy of your Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine membership certificate (not required if practising outside Australia).
If you have an overseas qualification and want to work in Australia as a DAME, you will also need to complete the 1 day regulatory training through Monash University.
If you have previously been appointed as a DAME, and the previous appointment was cancelled, you must include with the application any available evidence to show that you can now properly exercise the powers or perform the functions of the appointment sought.

You are expected to undertake continued professional education.
Four years unless terminated earlier.
