You will require this approval if you are a licensed dentist who intends to supply medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). This may be permitted in an area where the community does not have a convenient and efficient pharmaceutical service.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
Approval may be granted to dental practitioners where there is no pharmacist operating within a reasonable distance of the area in which the approval to dispense is being sought.
The dental practitioner needs to be practising in the area and time for which approval is being sought and hold a current registration with the national dental board.
The dentist must be willing to supply PBS medicines to any person in that area who presents with a valid PBS prescription.
Temporary approval for locums may be available. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information regarding eligibility requirements.
For the duration of your practise in the area, or until a valid pharmacy opens.
No fees are required.
