Authority to Prescribe a Drug of Addiction - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this authorisation if you intend to prescribe a drug of addiction to a patient. A drug of addiction is any substance that is classified a Schedule 8 substance in the agency's Poisons List.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authority you must be an authorised practitioner, such as:

  • A medical practitioner;
  • A nurse;
  • A midwife;
  • A dentist; or
  • A veterinarian.
