Registration as a Beekeeper - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this registration if you intend to keep honeybee hives in New South Wales. A person registered as a beekeeper under a corresponding law of another State or a Territory is exempt from this requirement provided they do not intend to keep bees in NSW for more than 3 months in a year.

Please be aware that there are 3 classes of beekeeper registration: business, recreational and concession.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • Submit the application form; and
  • Pay any required fees.

When applying for registration, you are required to sign an application form stating that you check all hives for diseases and pests, and that any sign of a notifiable disease or pest will be immediately reported.

Registration may be granted for a period not exceeding 2 years, unless it is earlier surrendered or cancelled.

The application and renewals need to be accurately and completely filled in and must include the correct payment by cheque / money order or credit card (no cash).

There is a 10 per cent discount for online application and renewals.

Your registration may be subject to conditions. Conditions may apply generally, on a specified class of beekeepers or on an individual.
