Network Operator Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this licence if you are a corporation (other than a public water utility) and intend to construct, maintain or operate any water industry infrastructure.

Water industry infrastructure is water infrastructure or sewerage infrastructure used for the production, treatment, filtration, storage, conveyance or reticulation of water.

Specifically, this licence entitles you to:

  • carry out work on or under public roads and public reserves to construct water industry infrastructure
  • require landowners to stop trees and other structures on their land from damaging their infrastructure
  • remain ownership of all water industry infrastructure you construct, whether or not you own the land in, on or over which it is situated
  • appoint meter readers to enter private premises to read meters that measure the supply of water

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be registered as a corporation
  • complete and submit an application form
  • submit all other required documents
  • pay the prescribed fee.

Before this licence can be granted, the Agency must be satisfied that your corporation has the capacity to carry out the activities that the licence would authorise, in a manner that does not present a significant risk or harm to the environment.

Licence remains in force unless suspended, cancelled or revoked.
