Prohibited Weapons - Body Armour Vest Permit - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this permit if you intend to possess body armour vests for employees to wear. This permit is only available for security firms, a person on behalf of a security firm, or a person on behalf of a media organisation. Please note that:

  • A permit issued to a security firm authorises the acquisition of body armour vests for use by employees;
  • A permit issued to an employee of a security firm authorises the possession and use of the employer's body armour vests only; and
  • A permit issued to a media organisation authorises the acquisition of body armour vests for use by employees listed on the permit.

If you are applying as a media organisation, you must outline why you require the use of a body armour vest for employees, including the risk posed to the employee due to civil unrest or warfare. This permit will restrict the number of body armour vests your organisation is authorised to acquire according to business needs.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • Operate a security firm, or be an employee of a security firm; or
  • Operate a media organisation, or be an employee of a media organisation;
  • Complete the application form and genuine reason form with the required documentation; and
  • Pay the required fee.

Duration

The permit will be issued for a maximum term of 5 years.
