Service summary

You will require this permit if you intend to conduct a trade promotion lottery in NSW. A trade promotion lottery is a free-to-enter lottery that promotes goods and services supplied by a business where chance determines the award of a prize or prizes. A trade promotion lottery is sometimes known as a sweepstake, competition, contest or give-away.

This permit is required to make sure that your lottery is conducted fairly and that you comply with a number of legal responsibilities. You will not require this permit if the winner is judged against specific criteria.

To be eligible for this permit, you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • be applying for the permit on behalf of a business (for instance a sole proprietor, a partnership or a company) with a registered ABN
  • lodge an application form and any required information
  • comply with the information described in the attached document, and any other applicable legislation
  • pay the prescribed fee.
