Authority to Possess and Use Pentobarbital (Pentobarbitone) for the Humane Destruction of Animals - NSW - Australian Business Licence and Information Service

Description

You will need this authorisation if you intend to possess and use pentobarbital (pentobarbitone) for the purpose of the humane destruction of animals.

Any authority issued will be valid only while the authorised person is in the employment of the nominating Local Government Authority, Animal Welfare League or the RSPCA.

Pentobarbitone sodium is a barbiturate drug (a central nervous system depressant) that can be used for humane animal destruction (euthanasia).

Pentobarbitone sodium must be kept separately from all other goods in a secure location and is a requirement to keep a separate register of all pentobarbitone sodium that is obtained or used.

Eligibility requirements

You must be currently employed by a Local Government Authority (Council), Animal Welfare League or the RSPCA to be eligible for this authority.

Note: A veterinarian does not require an authority from NSW Ministry of Health to supply pentobarbital by virtue of them being a registered veterinary practitioner in their relevant state or territory.
