4WD Tourist Vehicle Operator Accreditation - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this accreditation if you intend to operate a tour service using four-wheel drive vehicles. A tour service is a public passenger pre-booked service that is designed for the carriage of tourists to destinations listed on a publicly available tour itinerary, or a service designed for the carriage of tourists where all passengers journeys have a common origin or a common destination, or both.

Each tour offered by a four-wheel drive tourist service must involve the carriage of passengers on a surface other than a sealed road.

You must only use vehicles that comply with the Australian Design Standards for off-road passenger vehicles (also known as "MC" vehicles).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must:

  • Be considered fit and proper;
  • Have completed the necessary training;
  • Demonstrate evidence of your financial viability from a qualified accountant;
  • Provide details of the premises at which the vehicles will be kept when not in use;
  • Provide details of the premises of repairer and repairer's licence number to be used for maintenance and repairs of the vehicles;
  • Nominate the number of vehicles you intend to operate and the make and registration numbers of each vehicle;
  • Show evidence of any accreditation for another public passenger service;
  • Provide details of any civil or criminal offences in the last 5 years; and
  • Pay the relevant application fees.

Your application must be supported by documents that confirm your character, identity, financial viability, premises, systems, etc. Please include two character references and provide 100 points of identification with your application.
