Approval of Dangerous Goods Packaging Designs - New South Wales

Description

You may need this approval to design packaging to be used for transporting dangerous goods on road or rail. You will only need this approval if your activity does not comply with the relevant code.

Dangerous goods are substances or articles that present an immediate hazard to people, property or the environment. This includes explosives, gases, flammable liquids and radioactive substances. All dangerous goods need to be packaged in accordance with the relevant code. Any packaging that is required to undergo performance tests under the relevant code will require this approval of design.

Examples of packing that requires approval include:

  • portable tanks
  • tanks on tank vehicles
  • pressure receptacles
  • aerosol dispensers
  • bulk containers and drums
  • boxes
  • intermediate bulk containers (IBCs)
  • barrels
  • jerry cans
  • bags and composite packaging.

Please be aware that your approval may be subject to conditions relating to the construction, packing, use or maintenance of a packaging.
