Registration as a Surveyor - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this registration if you intend to act as a land or mining surveyor in New South Wales. This includes providing services to assess land and geographic information to be used for planning and regulation of the land and related structures, such as determining the size and shape of an area of land or working out the position of boundaries of public or private land.

There are various classes of registration depending on the services to be provided.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for registration, you must:

  • hold a recognised qualification
  • have recognised practical experience (104 weeks for land, 156 weeks for mining)
  • have either passed the Board's examination or fulfilled the requirements of a recognised professional training agreement
  • be of good character
  • submit the required forms
  • pay any required fees.

To commence the registration process you must firstly enrol as a candidate surveyor. A person is entitled to enrol as a candidate surveyor if the person is either:

  • enrolled in a course of studies leading towards a recognised qualification
  • the holder of a recognised qualification.

Please note that once you are registered you must comply with the continuing professional development requirements.

Applications will generally be assessed within 28 days.
