Commercial Agent and Private Inquiry Agent - Operator Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to engage in Commercial Agent and / or Private Inquiry Agent (CAPI) activities including:

  • process serving
  • debt collection
  • repossession of goods
  • surveillance of people
  • investigation of people.

This licence only authorises you to undertake these activities as an employee of a CAPI Master Licence holder. If you are self-employed or sub contract, you require your own CAPI master licence in addition to this operator licence.

Please be aware that your first operator licence will be a probationary licence issued for one year. This and any subsequent probationary licences are issued subject to a condition that you may only carry out the activities authorised by the licence only under the immediate supervision of the holder of a Master Licence or the holder of an unrestricted operator licence.

  • supply certified copies of all relevant qualifications within 12 months of your application
  • satisfy stringent integrity requirements including having your fingerprints taken
  • provide the required information
  • pay the required application fees.
