You will need this certificate to collect motor vehicles for transportation to a scrap metal facility. This certificate does not authorise you to undertake towing work that involves transporting motor vehicles to a facility for repair, reuse or resale.
Ordinarily, the operator of a tow truck is required to hold an operator's licence. This certificate is an exemption from that requirement. Its purpose is to make the requirements for licensing less onerous for businesses operating crane-type tow trucks that solely transport motor vehicles destined for scrap metal recycling.
Any tow truck you use in your business must be a crane mounted tow truck. This certificate does not authorise you to use a tilt table-top tow truck. Any person you employ or engage to tow is also exempt from the requirement to hold a tow truck driver's certificate.
