Restricted Demolition Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to carry out restricted demolition work. Restricted demolition work includes the total demolition of any building, structure or installation that either:

  • is 4 to 15 metres high involving mechanical demolition (e.g. using excavators, bulldozers or cranes)
  • is 10 to 15 metres high that may affect the structural integrity of the work
  • will involve load-shifting machinery being used on suspended floors.

Please be aware that you are required to give notice to the Agency at least 5 days before the work commences.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be considered fit and proper for the purposes of the licence
  • be able to demonstrate knowledge of safe working methods of demolition work
  • demonstrate the necessary experience requirements
  • submit the required forms
  • pay the prescribed fees.

Licences remain in force for two years unless suspended or cancelled.

You must:

  • provide a certificate of currency for workers compensation insurance if you have employees and are not an exempt employer
  • provide a certificate of currency for public liability insurance that lists the business activity as 'demolition'
  • nominate a supervisor involved in the management of the business. The management supervisor must have completed the approved training and have demonstrated experience (generally three years) in demolition related work.
