Accreditation of Accredited Certifiers - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this accreditation if you intend to act as a public building or subdivision certifier and issue compliance, construction, subdivision, occupation or subdivision certificates. The type of work this accreditation will allow you to carry out includes:

  • building surveying and inspection
  • subdivision and strata certification
  • acoustic compliance certification
  • hydraulic compliance certification
  • engineering compliance certification
  • storm-water management facilities compliance certification
  • private road and drainage compliance certification
  • swimming pool certification.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must:

  • comply with the industry's code of conduct, including its complaints handling mechanism and meet core performance criteria
  • keep records of all applications for certification, written determinations and certifications, projects for which complying development certificates have been issued, and plans and documents associated with all certifications
  • be covered by appropriate insurance
  • have approval from your local council if you intend to carry out certification work on its behalf
  • have no conflict of interest with a project for which you intend to undertake certification work
  • undergo continuing professional development
  • submit the required forms
  • pay any prescribed fees.

You must also have completed the relevant qualification, which is either:

  • a university short course in certification
  • the Board accreditation exam.

You must make your application in a form approved by the Board, supply any required documents and the relevant fee.
