Tow Truck Driver's Certificate - New South Wales

Description

You will need this certificate to drive a tow truck for the purposes of towing motor vehicles. This certificate is required to do any of the following on a road or road related area:

  • drive or stand a licensed tow truck
  • use, operate or assist in the use or operation of a licensed tow truck
  • drive or stand an unlicensed tow truck for the purpose of towing a motor vehicle for fee or reward.

Please be aware that:

  • you must only carry out the type of towing work authorised on your driver's certificate
  • if you intend to carry out accident towing work, you will require a towing authorisation.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this certificate, you must:

  • be 18 years old or over
  • have a current fully unrestricted NSW driver's licence
  • be of good repute and in all other respects a fit and proper person to be the driver of a tow truck
  • have sufficient responsibility to drive a tow truck in accordance with law and custom
  • have read and understood the criteria, conditions and procedures for authorisation as outlined in the information package.

You may be subject to a criminal record check for the last 10 years and a driving record check from the last 3 years.
