Provisional Pistol (Business / Employment) Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You must hold this licence if you intend to work as an armed security guard in New South Wales.

For the first six months of the term of the licence, you (the licensee) must not possess or use a pistol unless under the direct supervision of a person who has continuously held a full category H Business / Employment Licence and a Class 1F Security Licence for a period of more than 12 months.

Your application must be made through an approved master licensee. Individual applications without this approval will not be accepted. For the first 6 months firearm possession / use will only be allowed under supervision.

Please note that if you have previously held a business / employment licence, you may not be subject to these provisional requirements and may be able to apply for a business / employment licence straight away.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • hold a class 1 security licence
  • have completed an approved firearms safety accreditation course conducted by an accredited instructor
  • provide a letter from the master licensee of an intention of employment
  • submit the application form along with the required documentation
  • pay the required fees.
