Service summary

You will require this authority if you intend to operate a network of taxis in NSW. Taxi-cab networks play an important role in the provision of taxi-cab services, particularly in relation to accepting telephone bookings for taxis and the prompt dispatch of vehicles.

If you are found to be operating a taxi-cab network that is not authorised you are liable to a penalty.

Please be aware that the network will be subject to conditions and ongoing requirements that will need to be met.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authority you must:

  • Be a person of good repute;
  • Be a fit and proper person to operate a taxi-cab network;
  • Demonstrate that you have the necessary technical knowledge, equipment and competence to operate a taxi-cab network;
  • Supply a copy of your licence to operate a radio network;
  • Supply full details and specifications of the equipment to be used by the network, and evidence that equipment is certified as reliable, as well as the regular maintenance program for the equipment, and details of the alarm system used in the taxi-cabs;
  • Have managerial and financial competence to operate a taxi-cab network; and
  • Pay any fees and insurance costs.
