You will require this approval if you intend to install a fixed domestic oil or solid fuel heating appliance, other than a portable appliance. It is required to ensure that the installation, and any related construction, complies with the applicable standards, and to ensure that minimum health safety standards have been observed.

A domestic oil heating appliance is an electrical heating appliance that is filled with oil, but does not burn oil to produce heat. A solid fuel heating appliance is an appliance that releases heat through combustion. Solid fuels include wood, peat and coal. A portable appliance is an electrical heating appliance which is not filled with oil or other substance that is used to produce heat through combustion.
