Tattooing Show Permit - New South Wales

Service summary

If you intend to conduct a tattooing show (whether on your own behalf or on behalf of another person) you will require this permit.

Tattooing is defined as any tattooing for decorative purposes. Businesses that only offer cosmetic tattooing are exempt from this licence.

Only an individual can apply for this permit. If the show is to be conducted by or on behalf of a corporation, partnership or trust, the application must be accompanied by evidence that the applicant has been nominated by the corporation, partners or trustees, to be the events manager.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence individuals must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Be an Australian citizen or resident;
  • Not be a controlled member of a declared organisation under the Crimes (Criminal Organisations Control) Act 2012;
  • Demonstrate that they have the capacity to ensure that participants in the show comply with legislative requirements applicable in the State relating to the performance of body art tattooing procedures; and
  • The personal details of the participants of the show must be provided to Fair Trading at least 14 days before the commencement of the show.

Please be aware that no more than two permits will be granted to the same individual (or an individual applying on behalf of the same corporation, partnership or trust) in the same calendar year.

The application must be made 28 days before the commencement date of the show or exhibition.
