You will need this approval to operate gaming machines (for example, poker machines or any other approved progressive gaming device) in your hotel or club for use by the public.
Your business' gaming machine threshold (GMT) indicates the total number of gaming machine entitlements (GMEs) and / or poker machine permits (PMPs) your business can hold at one time. Each GME or PMP your business holds authorises you to operate one gaming machine.
Please be aware that:
- all new businesses have a GMT of zero (until you have received a GMT increase approval, you are not allowed to hold any GMEs or PMP)
- GMEs can be held by clubs or hotels, whereas PMPs can only be held by hotels
- hotels can hold a maximum of 30 GMEs or PMPs at one time
- there are specific processes that must be adhered to for the transfer of GMEs and PMPs between businesses.
The number of available GMEs and PMPs reflect the total number of gaming machines that are authorised to operate in New South Wales. All available GMEs and PMPs are held by existing businesses. Therefore, if you intend to operate gaming machines or increase the number you already have, you will have to attain GMEs or PMPs from one of the businesses that currently hold them.
