Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP) - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this permit if you intend to drive or ride an unregistered vehicle on the road network for a specific journey. Please be aware that this permit is only issued for restricted journeys or short-term use up to 28 days including:

  • A single journey;
  • A single return journey;
  • A number of defined trips to be completed within 28 days; or
  • For a specific purpose (for example, for crop harvesting).

This permit will only provide you with limited access to roads. Some vehicles are exempt from registration.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you will need to:

  • Provide proof of identity. If you're registering the vehicle in the name of an organisation or on behalf of someone else, you will need to complete the Representatives Authority section on the application form;
  • Provide a safety check report of a Customer Declaration of Roadworthiness for specific vehicles;
  • Complete and submit an application form; and
  • Pay the application fee.
