Bookmaker Licence (Thoroughbred Racing) - New South Wales

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to become a bookmaker for thoroughbred racing. This licence applies to individuals, if you intend to apply as a company you will require a bookmaker company licence.

Bookmakers operate at race meetings, in approved auditoriums or betting premises during pre-determined hours to offer bets on racing events. This licence permits you to take bets face to face, via recorded phone calls, and the internet. Depending on your licence conditions, bets are offered on daily racing events, future races including doubles, and approved betting events.

Please be aware that you must comply with the specified rules and your licence will be subject to conditions.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be over the age of 21 years with a minimum of 6 months experience as a bookmaker clerk
  • be fit and proper person for the purpose of this licence
  • have not been convicted of a racing related offence.

Applicants must lodge a bookmaker financial statement before attending an interview with the licensing supervisor.

Please be aware that if you hold a bookmaker licence you are not eligible to be granted a trainer or jockey licence.
