Firearm Club Approval for a Target Shooting, Hunting, Pistol or Collecting Club - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this approval if your target shooting, hunting, pistol or collecting club intend to conduct activities on an approved range involving the possession or use of firearms.

Members of the club can use their club membership as proof of their genuine reason to support their application for a firearms licence.

Please be aware that after the issue of the approval to operate as a firearms club, you may also need to obtain a club firearms licence to acquire firearms for use by club members.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval:

  • The club must be a target shooting, hunting, pistol or collecting club;
  • The application form must be completed by the club secretary or other relevant office holder; and
  • You must provide all the requested documentation outlined in the attached documents.

If you have never held a firearms licence or permit in NSW, or you do not currently hold an equivalent issued firearms licence or permit interstate, you are required to complete a firearms safety training course and provide evidence of this with your application. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information regarding eligibility requirements.
