Dealers Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to buy, sell or otherwise trade in firearms. The licence authorises a dealer, or an employee or partner of that dealer, to:

  • buy, sell, exchange or hire out firearms
  • possess unregistered firearms
  • carry or discharge a firearm for the purpose of demonstrating the firearm to a prospective purchaser or for the purpose of testing it.

The owner and any employees of the firearm dealer will need to complete a Dealer Nominee Application.

Eligibility requirements

Licence holders must:

  • comply with the relevant safe keeping and storage requirements under the Firearms Act 1997
  • not permit any unauthorised person to possess or use a firearm in the holder's possession
  • permit a police officer to inspect, at any reasonable time, the holder's facilities for the storage and safe keeping of firearms
  • not possess an amount of ammunition that exceeds the amount authorised in writing by the Commissioner.
