The Food Standards Code (FSC) contains general and prescriptive standards for food sold in Australia, and includes subject matter relating to food composition and labelling of packaged foods. The FSC is adopted uniformly by all States and Territories.
The FSC applies to any agency, public authority or person managing or in control of the manufacture of food for human consumption. The FSC details requirements for such things as: food labelling and advertising, date marking, permissible food additives, preservatives, colourings, flavourings and flavour enhancers, artificial sweetening substances, vitamins and minerals etc. All packaged food for sale for human consumption in Australia must conform to the requirements of the FSC.
A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
