Registration as a surveyor - Queensland

Description

You will need this registration to undertake work as a surveyor. Surveyors carry out work such as determining property boundaries, preparing contour maps or setting out the location of roads, tunnels and buildings.

There are four levels of registration:

  1. surveying associate
  2. surveying graduate (this registration requires you to gain practical experience in the profession and demonstrate progression towards registration as a surveyor)
  3. surveyor
  4. surveyor with endorsement.

Registration alone does not qualify you to undertake surveying work, and you must not conduct surveys of a specific category until you have obtained the relevant endorsement. A registered surveyor may seek one of the following endorsements:

  • cadastral
  • engineering
  • mining (three categories - open cut, underground coal, underground metalliferous)
  • consulting.

You will need a consulting endorsement to operate a cadastral surveying business or charge a fee for a cadastral survey. If corporate registration is sought then the corporation must nominate a cadastral surveyor with a consulting endorsement.
