Driver trainer accreditation authorises an individual to provide pre-licence driver/rider training in Queensland for reward.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

  • You must hold a valid open driver licence issued in Australia or New Zealand for the class of vehicle for which the applicant wishes to provide training, and have held the licence for a continuous period of at least 1 year immediately prior to making the application.
  • You must have successfully completed the appropriate training courses delivered by a registered training organisation.

Duration

This accreditation will remain in effect for 12 months.

You can obtain this accreditation by completing a Driver trainer and rider trainer accreditation application (F3948) and submitting it to a Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) Customer Service Centre.

You must submit the following documents with your application:

  • your driver licence when lodging your application
  • if you do not have a Queensland driver licence number/customer reference number, you must complete a New customer application (F3503).

Light vehicle classes (C and CA)

TLI41216 or TLI41210 - Certificate IV in Transport and logistics (Road transport - car driving instruction).

Heavy vehicle classes (to specified level)

TLI41316 or TLI41310 - Certificate IV in Transport and logistics (Road transport - heavy vehicle driving instruction) including 1 of the following competency units. The competency unit must be listed on the qualification issued by the RTO.

  • TLIC2002 - Drive light rigid vehicle
  • TLIC3003 - Drive medium rigid vehicle
  • TLIC3004 - Drive heavy rigid vehicle
  • TLIC3005 - Drive heavy combination vehicle
  • TLIC4006 - Drive multi-combination vehicle

Note: If the competency unit number is listed with a letter on the end it is still acceptable.

Motorbike classes (RE and R class)

  • TLI41416 or TLI41410 - Certificate IV in Transport and logistics (Road transport - motorcycle riding instruction)

Note: The following assessment qualification or elective units of training are essential for the delivery of Q-RIDE and class multi-combination vehicle assessment.

  • TAE40116 or TAE40110 - Certificate IV in Training and assessment
    or
  • TAEASS401 - Plan assessment activities and processes and TAEASS402 - Assess competence.

Note: If the competency unit number is listed with a letter on the end it is still acceptable.

  • if you are applying for the grant of accreditation as a rider trainer, you must already be an accredited driver trainer and be authorised to provide training for class R motorbike
  • an accredited rider trainer may only give learner Q-RIDE training as a registered service provider or as an employee of a registered service provider.

As an applicant your criminal and traffic history are also checked.
