Driver trainer accreditation - Queensland

Description

You will need this accreditation if you are paid to provide driving lessons to a pre-licensed driver. Driver trainers provide an educational experience to learner drivers which promotes the necessary knowledge, attitude and skill base for the efficient and safe operation of a motor vehicle on the public road system.

All accredited trainers who provide a car used for driving lessons must ensure the car has a conspicuously displayed sign or plate on it showing the contact name and information when the car is used to give training on a road. The car must also be fitted with:

  • training controls that are easily accessible for immediate use by a driver trainer sitting in the front passenger seat of the car
  • an internal rear-view mirror for the trainer as well as the driver's rear-view mirror
  • an external driving mirror on each side of the car.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation, you must:

  • hold and have held a valid open licence for a continuous period of at least one year immediately prior to making the application is made in an open Australian or New Zealand driver licence for the class of vehicle for which you propose to give training
  • have a sound traffic and criminal history record
  • possess a blue card
  • be medically fit
  • read and understand the code of conduct
  • complete the approved training course - see the 'Approved registered training providers of driving instruction courses' for a list of training providers that offer the course.

Applications for driver trainer accreditation may be pre-lodged without course certification to allow for criminal and traffic history checks to be commenced. However course certification must be presented within 3 months from the lodgement date of the application.

This accreditation cannot be transferred.
