Definition of terms

Commercial vessel

Commercial vessel means a vessel used for commercial purposes.

Jetty

includes any wharf, quay, pier, landing place or stage or platform which is the property or under the control of the Council. The term includes, where necessary, all buildings and other works on the jetty, and the appurtenances of the jetty.

Private vessel

means a vessel used wholly for recreational or sporting activites and not for hire or reward.

Transferability

Development Approvals are not transferable.

Duration

Council determines the length of this approval.

Rockhampton Regional Council's fees and charges are available on the council website, or contact council to determine applicable fees.

Application

You can obtain this approval by completing an IDAS Application and submitting it to the Chief Executive Officer.


Additional information

Councils regulate jetty use to:

  • provide for the equitable access and use of jetties
  • provide for public health and safety.

When approving the use of a jetty, the council will consider:

  • the vessels size
  • the vessels design
  • the type of trade or service in which the vessel is engaged.

You must not stand any vehicle at the shore end of any jetty, barge loading ramp or boat ramp so as to obstruct or interfere with (or be likely to obstruct or interfere with) access to or exit from the jetty.

Unless you have a current approval issued under local law for the following purposes, you must not:

  • ride any animal on any jetty, barge loading ramp or boat ramp
  • pack or unpack (into or from any case or container) any dangerous or contaminated goods or other goods likely to adversely affect public health or safety or the environment (other than fish and fishing tackle and other goods associated with fishing) on any jetty
  • solicit, canvas for sale, or actually sell boat tickets, goods, foodstuffs, chattels or any other thing on any jetty
  • erect or maintain any sign board, notice board, or other fixtures or erection for the exhibition of bills or notices on any jetty
  • exhibit on, affix to, or maintain any bill or notice on any jetty.

Applicants wishing to gain Approval to Operate a Fuelling Facility in Port must apply in writing to the Council.
