Standards Australia can provide up to date information on Australian and International Standards, Quality Certification and Design.

Standards Australia produces standards which are clear, practical and which reflect the best in current technical, scientific and social thinking and provides a range of quality, design and approval services to encourage use of Australian and International Standards.

All manufacturers, and suppliers at all levels, including retailers, should be referred to this office.

Standards Australia also has major information centres in Sydney and Melbourne which provide a wide range of information and research facilities in relation to Australian, International and foreign nations standards and regulations. The organisation also conducts public seminars on new Australian Standards. A wide range of literature is available on both standards and quality services.

Furthermore, the Federal Bureau of Consumer Affairs administers and enforces the provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act relating to consumer product safety and information standards.

The supply of goods which do not comply with a prescribed Mandatory Consumer Standard is an offence under the Competition and Consumer Act and is punishable by fines of up to $100,000 for corporations and $20,000 for individuals.
